SHIN SUZUMA
LISTEN l FOLLOWShin Suzuma is a pianist and composer, creating music with an imaginative interplay between neo-classical, improvisation, cinematic composition, and subtle electronic textures.
His compositions are mostly written for solo piano and performed in such a way as to create a sense of intimacy and calm, balanced with works of a more playful and uplifting nature. Shin's music occasionally touches upon the melancholy but always has a prevailing sense of hope and gentle optimism.
Being of British and Japanese heritage, his inspirations include the Japanese artists Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi. But it was the harmonically rich writing of Chilly Gonzales and Nils Frahm that inspired him to develop his long-held love of improvisation into composition and live performance.
Released by the UK label Platoon, Shin Suzuma's solo piano EPs have amassed millions of streams worldwide and are regularly featured on Apple Music's playlists for Neo-Classical, Piano Sleep, Piano Chill, and Spotify's Peaceful Piano playlist.
His first EP “Introspect”, released in 2023, features works that were written with a small and intimate audience in mind; as if right next to the piano itself. The music reminds us of the comfort we can find in moments of solitude and reflection.
"Silhouettes", released the following year, introduces flashes of brightness and bold colours to his signature palette of calm and tranquillity. The tracks are more impressionistic in nature, depicting different once vibrant scenes that are now slightly faded in memory.
Shin's music offers audiences a welcomed moment of serenity, from granting a space for reflection to being guided along a playfully heartfelt musical journey.
